Ryan Nyquist | Bobcat

[ the problem ]
This video was shot in honor of Bobcats brand partnership with BMX legend Ryan Nyquist. Nyquist is an American professional BMX rider with 16 X Games medals, 39 X Games competition starts and 60 Dew Tour finals appearances (most all-time). The film also features standout BMX freestyle athletes Hannah Roberts and Perris Benegas who, at the time of the partnership (May 2021), were preparing to represent the U.S. Women’s National Team in the inaugural debut of BMX freestyle competition in the Tokyo Summer Olympics in 2021.
While Ryan, Hannah and Perris BMX successes are important context for this video, they aren’t what lies at the heart of this film. The story is ultimately about the partnership between Bobcat and Nyquist, and what this relationship represents. To tell that story effectively, we began with the riders themselves. Through a combination of high-energy action footage and candid interactions, we showcased both their remarkable athletic abilities and the personalities that make them compelling ambassadors for the Bobcat brand. In capturing the impressive riding sequences alongside genuine moments shared between the athletes and their coach, we aimed to create a portrait that felt both exciting and authentic.
[ our solution ]
Although all three riders play an important role in setting our story up, we intentionally spend more time with Nyquist. His partnership with Bobcat serves as the centerpiece of the film. This approach allowed us to highlight not only Nyquist’s accomplishments, but also his character, work ethic, and passion that make the collaboration feel natural and authentic.
By the time the brand partnership is formally introduced into the film and Nyquist is given his own Bobcat machine to start building his own BMX ramps, audiences already know and like him. They want him to have Bobcat’s support. What’s more, our intentional choice to include Mike Redden, Bobcat rep of Wilmington, NC location, also humanizes the Bobcat brand. We show two people coming together, bonding over their excitement for what can and will come from this exciting new partnership. Instead of presenting the partnership as a marketing announcement, the film frames it as a relationship built on shared values and mutual respect.
This story isn’t just about equipment and sponsorship, it is a story about people, ambition, and the opportunities that emerge when the right partnership takes shape.
